Jacqui Mitchell To All Instructors

Hola- me llamo Jacqui, but I am also commonly referred to as “Señora” by many of my students. I’ve taught Spanish levels 1 - AP, with ten of my fifteen years of Spanish teaching at North Raleigh Christian Academy in North Carolina. Last summer, my husband’s job moved up to Chesapeake from Raleigh, and the Lord answered years of prayer to be able to homeschool my three children for the first time.

I love teaching Spanish and maintain weekly Zoom lessons with students from back in NC. I am excited about being able to continue to homeschool my children but also serve more likeminded Christian families by introducing their children to the Spanish language in a way that will inspire them to reach Spanish- speakers with the gospel. I love showing students how learning Spanish can also help open professional doors for them as well, no matter which profession! Honestly, teaching Spanish is so fun and rewarding as I get to watch the students’ eyes light up as they begin to understand and create on their own.

It may surprise you to know that I did NOT want to become a teacher. Even as a Spanish major, I resisted the idea of following in my mother’s footsteps and becoming a Spanish teacher! The Lord had other plans for me, though, and the only job I could get after college was as a middle and high school teacher at my alma mater. It did not take long before I was hooked! I fell in love with the age group, as well as bringing energy and interaction to the subjects we were learning. I have taught middle school math, Bible, history, and English; and I am so grateful for the opportunity to teach middle school Academy at HSP this year. I am looking forward to serving your family and growing together this year.

I am married and live in the Great Bridge area of Chesapeake with our three kids and two cats. I love playing the piano and singing, working in my garden, shopping at Aldi, and learning new things.
