Karyn Parent To All Instructors

Hi! My name is Karyn Parent. I am thrilled to be involved in a Home School community with God loving people to work with! Coming from a sewing family, I was making all my clothes by six grade.  I got involved in 4-H sewing competitions and other sewing contests and did very well!  I was also an excellent artist, so I had the opportunity to go to Rhode Island School of Design where I received a BA in apparel design. “Becoming“ a Christian believer in college, lead me to interests in starting my own business instead of heading to New York City! God did amazing things for me and I ran a small business during college, hiring college students to help me meet deadlines, and they earned some extra spending money in the process!

After I got married to a wonderful man of God, we decided to focus on raising a family and putting our “all” into that! We raised 3 strong God loving daughters! They were all taught to sew!  I was the volunteer mom in many projects at their schools, school plays, class activities. I also ran a brownie troop for seven years, working with the young girls.  In my involvement with church functions, I did many art projects, along with decorating for the events, working with other people. I have developed a love for working with people to achieve and accomplish a given project. After my husband died I relocated I sold our family home in Northern Virginia and  moved to Norfolk to be with my 4 grandchildren and family; to help mold there lives to become strong God loving men!

In the sewing class we are building team effort in our projects and helping each other to making them fun and exciting, being inspired by each other! “ Let God go to work in everything you do!” and“ It’s working heartily onto the Lord and not into men” are our themes! We are making useful projects, learning to sew, and not to spend a lot of money. We are learning about patterns, how to work them, then make variations!  For the boys, three of my grandsons have made their own PJ pants and one of them wants to make more with his friends! I am ready and willing to take on the boys and make it fun for them, and they can learn some useful skills! There are lots of interesting projects we can do to learn the basics of sewing!
